"The Get Down" feat. Slum Village

The timeless energy of real Hip-Hop is crossing the Atlantic next week, as Chicago’s own Abstract Mindstate—the duo of Olskool Ice-Gre and E.P. Da Hellcat—joins Slum Village on the Front 2 Back Tour, launching Monday (June 9) in London. The European run celebrates the 25th anniversary of Slum Village’s landmark 1999 album Fantastic Vol. 2, a record that not only redefined underground Hip-Hop but continues to influence artists worldwide—including Abstract Mindstate themselves.

And the timing couldn’t be better. Today (June 6), Abstract Mindstate and Slum Village reunite on wax with the release of their brand-new single, “The Get Down”, available now on all major streaming platforms. A funk-laced, feel-good groove, the song is a bold reaffirmation of the two groups’ shared Midwestern roots and magnetic stage chemistry. “It’s about giving crowds more than what they bargained for—a money-back guarantee of sorts,” says Olskool Ice-Gre.

The Get Down: A Prelude to The Art Project

“The Get Down” is the second single from Abstract Mindstate’s highly anticipated upcoming album, The Art Project, due out June 27 via Honest Music / Barak With Love / Vydia. Produced entirely by Slum Village’s own Young RJ, the album is the result of the powerful musical synergy that’s developed between the groups over multiple tours across the Pacific Northwest and Europe in recent years.

The Art Project marks Abstract Mindstate’s first full-length offering since 2021’s Dreams Still Inspire, their Kanye West-produced comeback release and the only official album to come from Ye’s short-lived YZY SND label. Now independent and creatively charged, the duo continues to push forward their signature sound, which they’ve dubbed Adult Contemporary Hip-Hop (ACH)—music crafted with grown minds and classic Hip-Hop hearts.

Still Paying: The Journey Comes Full Circle

The group’s evolution isn’t just musical—it’s cinematic. Later this year, Abstract Mindstate will release a short film titled Still Paying...An Abstract European Experience, documenting their first tour with Slum Village in 2024. The film promises an intimate look into life on the road, the bond between the two legendary acts, and the resilience that’s fueled Abstract Mindstate’s return to form.

About Abstract Mindstate

Formed in Chicago by Olskool Ice-Gre (South Side) and E.P. Da Hellcat (West Side), Abstract Mindstate carved out a unique space in Hip-Hop with their soulful production, razor-sharp lyricism, and emotionally resonant storytelling. They debuted in 2001 with We Paid, Let Us In! and had ambitions for a trilogy of albums. However, industry setbacks led to their hiatus in 2008.

Over a decade later, the duo reemerged—reinvigorated and more focused than ever—thanks to their long-standing friendship with Kanye West, who produced their 2021 return Dreams Still Inspire. While no longer connected to West’s label, Abstract Mindstate has found a new home with Slum Village’s extended family, continuing their mission to elevate Hip-Hop without compromise.

Stay connected: Follow Abstract Mindstate on all platforms and catch them live this summer with Slum Village across Europe. Whether you’ve followed them since the mixtape days or just discovered the vibes, now’s the time to get down.

📢 Abstract Mindstate is back—and they’re still paying.
